Thousands pack VSU's lawn for The Happening event

VALDOSTA, GA- The front lawn on Valdosta State University's campus was packed with thousands of people today for an annual get-together.

For the 21st year, VSU hosted "The Happening."

It's an event for students to find out about businesses and organizations in the community.

More than 250 vendors set up tents today, the most they've ever had.

From campus organizations such as the color guard to taxi cab companies, there was a lot of handshaking and a lot of freebies for students too.

"It's open to every student, to help them get acclimated, not only to Valdosta State but also to the Valdosta community," said Robin Vickery, Director of Student Life.

"We always love free stuff, but then again a lot of it is educational and it shows us how we can use it in your professional career," said student Cieria Swain.

University Officials say The Happening is the biggest student-involved event on campus.
