Canned goods needed for Lowndes Relay For Life | News
VALDOSTA, GA- VALDOSTA, GA (April 9, 2012) – The American Cancer Society needs your canned goods to fill luminaria bags at the Relay For Life of Lowndes County on April 27.
This year, the Society is using canned goods instead of sand to fill its luminaries that will line the Relay track. And your donations will do twice the good in the community – the Society will donate the canned goods to the Community Day after the Relay.
"Using cans of food is a great way to anchor the luminaria bags at Relay," said Jo Clevenger, a community manager for the American Cancer Society in Albany. "But it's also a great way to give back to the community after Relay and help people in our area who are in need of food. We urge everyone in the area to join us in this canned good drive."
The Society has placed boxes for collection of canned goods at the Team Rally Meeting being held on April 17 at Wiregrass Georgia Tech at 6:00 p.m., Guardian Bank on Norman Drive, and onsite at the Luminary tent on the day of the event.
