Love light tree to benefit stories of healing campaign

During December, you can honor or memorialize a loved one by donating a tax-deductible gift of $15 or more to the South Georgia Medical Center Love Light Tree during its “12 Days of Giving” holiday appeal. 

This traditional end-of-year giving program isn’t just a celebratory way to bring in the holidays. The appeal also serves as a tool for the SGMC Foundation and the SGMC Volunteer Auxiliary to ask for your financial support for medical center.

The South Georgia Medical Center Volunteer Auxiliary recently awarded patches and pins for hours of service and installed officers for 2012-2013 at an annual luncheon themed Sowing Seeds of Service.

Auxiliary members receiving patches for 50 hours of service were:  Patricia Bausch, James Biles, Jim Bowen, Marilyn Bridges, Marayah Fields, Dayron Maxwell, Erika McCoy, Kay Riggle and Janisha Ross.

Brooks County Health Department is hosting an adult immunization clinic on Friday, October 5 to encourage all adults to make sure they are up-to-date on their immunizations.

“Vaccines aren’t just for children,” states Norma Jean Johnson, RN, County Nurse Manager. “As adults, there are many vaccines we need to ensure good health and to not spread illness to those around us, especially the flu.

Adults can come by, enjoy a cup of coffee and get their needed vaccines at the clinic.”

Lowndes Co. child is victim of salmonella outbreak

LOWNDES COUNTY, GA – A Lowndes County child under the age of 5-years-old is the latest victim of salmonella outbreak.

The Georgia Department of Public Health, along with numerous state, local and federal public health partners are investigating a multistate outbreak of Salmonella Typhimurium infections.

Public Information Officer, Courtney Sheeley says the child has not been hospitalized and is at home doing well.

This is the only case of Salmonella Typhimurium that has been identified in Georgia thus far.

SGMC using electronic medical records on 5-west

VALDOSTA, GA - News release from South Georgia Medical Center

South Georgia Medical Center is one step closer to implementing its Computerized Provider Order Entry (CPOE) electronic medical record (EMR) initiative.

Beginning Tuesday, August 7, SGMC will transition its first unit, 5-west, to an all-electronic medical record format. 

Physicians admitting patients to 5-west will be required to use the new electronic medical record system for all rounding orders.

SGMC to host life with diabetes support group

VALDOSTA, GA – The South Georgia Medical Center’s Diabetes Management Center will host their monthly Living with Diabetes session Tuesday, April 24, at 6 p.m. at the Diabetes Management Center.

Participation is free and this event is open to everyone with diabetes and their caregivers.
