Prayer walk for Valdosta man in need of liver transplant

VALDOSTA, GA - A prayer walk will be held for Santonio Bivins Thursday, November 3 at 7 p.m., on Valdosta State University’s front lawn.

Bivins has a chronic liver disease and needs a liver transplant. The prayer walk will help pay for Bivins medical care expenses.

Facebook alerts Blackshear man to $20K lottery win

A Blackshear man really “likes” his Facebook messages. Casey Mattox, 31, had just gotten off work when friends began posting on his Facebook page that he won $20,000.

“My phone started ringing, and people were congratulating me on Facebook,” he said.

Mattox’s name was announced on television as the winner of the Georgia Lottery’s $3,000,000 Taxes Paid extra chance drawing Oct. 26. His prize amounts to $20,000 after taxes.

“I was excited,” he said. “I was jumping up and down.”

MOULTRIE, GA – The cities of Sylvester, Moultrie, Quitman, Cordele, Morven and Berlin will all particpate in the 100 Mile Peanut Picking Yard Sale Saturday, October 8.

The 100 Mile Peanut Picking Yard Sale will start in Cordele and end in Quitman.

The Downtown Moultrie Bazaar & Farmer’s Market is also set for Saturday, October 8 from 7 a.m. - 2 p.m.

Downtown Moultrie is included on the map for the 100 mile event.

VFD wants you to donate smoke detectors for the blitz

VALDOSTA, GA - News release from the City of Valdosta

Due to the tragic home fire this past weekend that claimed the life of three young children, the Valdosta Fire Department will be conducting a smoke detector blitz on Saturday, Oct. 8, in the surrounding neighborhoods where the fire took place. 

VFD personnel will go door-to-door offering to install smoke detectors in the homes or to check installed detectors to ensure they are working properly.
