South GA high school bands to perform at ABAC's George Scott Day

TIFTON, GA – It’s that time of the year again, George Scott Day will be Thursday, April 19.

Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College will celebrate with its 34th annual ABAC Jazz Festival.

Festivities will begin at 10:25 a.m. at The Meadows on the ABAC campus with free performances from high school jazz bands from throughout the state.

American Cancer Society needs help getting canned goods to fill luminaria bags

The American Cancer Society needs your canned goods to fill luminaria bags at the Relay For Life of Lowndes County on April 27. This year, the Society is using canned goods instead of sand to fill its luminaries that will line the Relay track.

And your donations will do twice the good in the community – the Society will donate the canned goods to the Community Day after the Relay.

Night of dancing with the stars to benefit VSU scholarships

Valdosta State University will host Dancing with the Stars of Valdosta on Saturday, April 14.

Held in the VSU Student Union Grand Ballroom, Dancing with the Stars of Valdosta will feature nine couples, one local “star” paired with one local “expert,” all vying for the Audience Favorite Award while simultaneously raising funds for music, theatre, and dance scholarships.

The 3rd Annual Chamber Choice Awards, presented by Sunset Farm Foods and Bank of America, was held Thursday at the Rainwater Conference Center. Approximately 350 Chamber members were in attendance as six prestigious awards were given to outstanding businesses and volunteers from the Valdosta-Lowndes County community.

Lowndes High Senior David Wildes was named Student Teacher Achievement Recognition (STAR) Region 10 Winner on March 15 at the Valdosta Country Club.

Wildes selected Mrs. Jennifer Graybeal as his STAR teacher. Graybeal currently teaches AP Economics at Lowndes High.

This year’s program, sponsored by ERCO Worldwide and coordinated by the Valdosta-Lowndes County Chamber, hosted more than thirty students and teachers from across the region.
