Youth mentoring program to kickoff at Southeast Elementary

VALDOSTA, GA – News release from South health District

The Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. (Tau Delta Delta Chapter/VSU) will partner with South Health District’s Office of Adolescent Health to provide a youth male mentoring program at Southeast Elementary School for the 2012-13 school year. 

The program will begin with a Back To School Kickoff event on Saturday, August 4 in the Southeast school gym. 

The event will feature educational sessions, a physical activity obstacle course, and an Omega Step Show.

Valdosta Mayor John Gayle announced the winners in the 2012 Valdosta People’s Choice Photo Contest at a special reception held at the Annette Howell Turner Center for the Arts, on July 20. 

The contest, sponsored by the City of Valdosta and the Annette Howell Turner Center for the Arts drew in over 100 entries that captured life in Valdosta through photography.

Three BCHS students chosen for national academy

BROOKS COUNTY, GA – News release from Brooks County Schools

Twenty four gifted male high school students from around the United States were selected from a massive competitive talent pool of applicants to attend the 2012 Distinguished Young Gentlemen (DYG) of America, Inc. National Summer Academy.

Of the 24, three were from Brooks County High School. Those students are, Artis Purcell Slater II, Nigel Ishmael Hezekiah Holley and Wayne Devon Silas Jr.
