Parents accused of fracturing baby's skull

VALDOSTA, GA (WALB)- Two parents are being transported from Texas to Lowndes County to face charges that they fractured their baby's skull.

Valdosta Police say 20-year-old Alizabeth Ledbetter and 19-year-old Michael Quick were temporarily staying at the In Town Suites on Baytree Road.

On April 6th, six-week-old Katherine Quick was taken to South Georgia Medical Center after her parents claimed she had a seizure.

The baby was transferred to Shands Hospital with a fracture to her skull.

VSU program helps trash become treasure

VALDOSTA, GA (WALB)- As the semester comes to an end and college students pack up their dorm rooms, many of them may dump a lot of stuff in the garbage. A new program at Valdosta State University is helping students donate their unwanted belongings to charity.

One man's trash is another man's treasure. This picture from last spring shows the piles of stuff VSU students dumped as they moved out of their dorms for summer. Now, one VSU professor is asking students to donate their unwanted items to charity instead of sending them to a landfill.

More trouble looms for teen who faked death

PANAMA CITY, FL- Prosecutors in Panama City are seeking to revoke the bond of a Lowndes County teen believed to have faked his death and traveled to Denver.

Search crews spent several hours last week on the Little River searching for 19-year-old Nathan Wilkins after a fisherman found a suicide note and a pile of clothes left along the banks.

Investigators believe the VSU student faked his death ahead of court appearance. He had been arrested in June during a child sex sting operation in Panama City.

Girls Inc. to host Bag Lady Luncheon

ALBANY, GA (WALB)- Straps, colors, buckles and brand names, the purse is a symbol of femininity and Girls Incorporated of Albany is using that symbol to do what they do best, help build girls age 6 to 18 in South Georgia into successful women in the community.

The organization is asking for donations of gently used designer bags for their first ever Bag Lady Luncheon.

The event is an auction from 11:30am to 1:00pm Thursday, May 99th at the Deck at Creekside of Chehaw Park.

DNR approves aquifer water storage experiment

BAKER CO., GA (WALB)- The Georgia Department of Natural Resources board today gave the go-ahead to build an experimental aquifer water storage and recovery system in Baker County.

It's intended to improve flow in streams off the Flint River and protect endangered species.

But the Georgia Water Coalition and many landowners along the Flint River oppose the project.

Berrien investigators look for tombstone vandals

BERRIEN CO., GA (WALB)- Berrien County Sheriff's Investigators are working to find out who vandalized headstones in a cemetery, and they're offering a reward to anyone with information.

Investigators say someone poured motor oil on two headstones in the Long Bridge Cemetery. When the caretaker tried to clean them, it permanently stained the stone, causing almost $3,000 in damages. Investigators believe the two headstones were targeted but have not yet found a connection between the deceased.

Police need help identifying man in credit card fraud case

RAY CITY, GA- Ray City and Cook County Investigators are asking for the public's help to identify a man in a credit card fraud case.

They say the man is victimizing a soldier overseas, using his credit card to make purchases at Dollar Generals.
