Nashville teen drowns in FL, body not found

NASHVILLE, GA (WALB)- Search and Rescue teams in Florida continue to search for the body of a Nashville teenager who drowned near Fernandina Beach.

The 17-year-old was on a fishing trip with friends when he went under Thursday afternoon and never resurfaced.

17-year-old Caster Gray's step-father Dennis Doe tried to keep busy in his yard Friday - praying he'd hear any type of news from Fernandina Beach Police.

"It bothers me but I'm trying not to think about it, and I hope they find his body," said Doe.

One dead after pedestrian collision

One man is dead after he was hit and killed by a vehicle in Valdosta Thursday night.

According to Georgia State Police, Gregory Steven Robinson, 50, was walking North on South St. Augustine Road near Green Acres Blvd. when he was hit and killed by a vehicle.

Officials note that Robinson was walking with the flow of traffic, and pedestrians should always walk against traffic. They also note he was hit in an unlit portion of the road.

Authorities say no charges will be filed against the driver.

Valdosta man killed in motorcycle wreck

HOMERVILLE, GA (WALB)- The Georgia State Patrol is still investigating a Thursday motorcycle accident that killed a Valdosta man near Homerville.

46 year old Aundra Townsend was traveling west on U.S. Highway 84 Thursday morning when the wreck happened near Woodlake Drive.

Troopers say Townsend was dead at the scene.

The State Patrol is still working to determine how the accident happened.

Valdosta family is homeless after fire

VALDOSTA, GA (WALB)- A Valdosta family is homeless after a fire that firefighters say could easily have been prevented.

Valdosta fire officials say the home on River Street is unlivable and probably irreparable after it caught fire yesterday afternoon.

One person was home at the time and got out safely. Officials say part of the home didn't have electricity and residents were using a candle for lighting.

EEE cases expected to rise

VALDOSTA, GA (WALB)- Experts worry this could be a bad year for Eastern Equine Encephalitis in south Georgia after another horse died from the illness.

Mosquitoes spread the disease.

 Health officials and veterinarians are warning you to protect yourselves and your animals from potentially dangerous mosquito bites.

All three Eastern Equine Encephalitis cases in Georgia this year have occurred right in our area. First a Brooks county horse was euthanized; and now a litter of puppies in Berrien County and a Cook County horse have all died.

Citizens speak out for Lowndes sanitation company

VALDOSTA, GA (WALB)- Customers of a Lowndes County sanitation company, that county leaders are trying to shut down, show their support for the company.

They voiced their concerns at Tuesday night's county commission meeting. They're angry they may no longer have a choice in who they pay to pick up their trash.

County leaders passed an ordinance in February that only allows Advanced Disposal to provide trash services to county residents.

Summer musicals kick off in Valdosta

VALDOSTA, GA (WALB)- Georgia's premiere summer theatre company is kicking off its musical season Friday in Valdosta with "The Sound of Music."

The Peach State Summer Theatre's cast came from all over the country to perform here in south Georgia.

An all time favorite, "The Sound of Music" is Friday night's opening musical to kick off the season for the Peach State Summer Theatre at Valdosta State University.
