Law enforcers check car seats

VALDOSTA, GA (WALB)- Valdosta law enforcers put into practice what they learned in a three-day car seat safety training course.

The University of Georgia's Traffic Injury Prevention Institute brought its National Child, Passenger Safety Technician certification course to Valdosta. Valdosta Police and Lowndes County deputies learned how to teach parents how to use car seats.

Facebook user threatens Lowndes Co. Sheriff

VALDOSTA, GA (WALB)- The Lowndes County Sheriff's Office is investigating Facebook posts that threaten Sheriff Chris Prine.

Investigators say someone is posting status updates on Facebook, threatening to use an AR-15 to kill Sheriff Prine over the handling of the Kendrick Johnson case. Johnson was a student found dead at Lowndes High School. Investigators say his death was an accident, but his family believes Johnson was murdered.

Four teens accused of burglarizing multiple homes

VALDOSTA, GA (WALB)- Four Valdosta teenagers are in jail tonight accused of breaking into multiple homes in Valdosta and Lowndes County.

Investigators say they caught the suspects at a vacant home where they were storing the stolen property.

Southwest Georgia's drought is officially over

ALBANY, GA (WALB)- According to the National Drought Mitigation Center, the drought for Southwest Georgia is officially over. 

Due to recent heavy rain fall and cooler temperatures, the National Drought Mitigation Center has now said that Southwest Georgia is not in a drought condition of any sort.

We were previously classified from D0, abnormally dry, to D2, which means a severe drought.

VHS student arrested with BB gun at school

VALDOSTA, GA (WALB)- Information from the Valdosta Police Department-

On May 9, 2013, at approximately 10:30 am,  Tearrance Demond Wrice, a 17 year old Valdosta resident was arrested on four felony charges. 

Wrice is a Junior at Valdosta High School.  On this date, Wrice was inside the school when a VHS coach spoke to him about smelling smoke on his person.  Wrice voluntarily emptied his pockets when questioned by the coach and a pocket knife was located in one of Wrice's pockets. 

UPDATE: Trucker killed in Interstate accident

COOK COUNTY, GA (WALB)- A truck driver was killed about midday Wednesday involving two tracker-trailers on I-75 at Exit 32.

The truck driver in front was transported to South Georgia Medical Center and his status is unknown.

The trailing truck driver passed away and his name has not been released.

The SCRT team is still investigating the scene to determine the cause of the accident.

Two South bound lanes are closed, but one remains open.

New Valdosta medical helicopter saves lives

VALDOSTA, GA (WALB)- There's a new form of emergency transportation in south Georgia. A paramedic rescue helicopter has a new home at Valdosta Regional Airport. This is the first helicopter of its kind to permanently serve the Valdosta region.

At any given moment this team of paramedics and pilots have to drop everything to go save the injured. They're on call 24/7 and live on site at the Valdosta Regional Airport.
