Lowndes students receive CNA pins

VALDOSTA, GA (WALB)- Information from Wiregrass Georgia Technical College-

 Twenty-eight students from Lowndes High received Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) pins at a ceremony held at the school last week.

Lowndes trucking company owner under federal indictment

LOWNDES COUNTY, GA (WALB)- The United States
Attorney for the Middle District of Georgia got an indictment of Devasko Dewayne
Lewis of Lowndes County for operating his trucks after the DOT issued an order for him to stop.

The DOT issued the order in 2008, and the government says that Lewis kept operating the trucks by registering them in other people's names.

Valdosta man stabs, tazes mother

VALDOSTA, GA (WALB)- A Valdosta woman is in the hospital tonight after police say her son stabbed and tazed her early this morning.

The woman was able to run to a neighbor's house to get help.

Police found her son and arrested him a short time later.

Just days after Mother's Day a Valdosta woman is recovering in the hospital after police say her son, 26-year-old Dexter Harding, stabbed and tazed her.

Lowndes Middle student starts fire at school

LOWNDES COUNTY, GA (WALB)- A Lowndes Middle School student is charged with second degree arson after deputies say he started a fire in the school.

The school was evacuated around 2:00 p.m. yesterday after a student lit a garbage can on fire inside a boys bathroom.

No one was injured, and the fire caused only minimal smoke damage.

An 11-year-old boy said he was dared by a friend to start the fire. Deputies say more arrests are possible.

Valdosta mother assaulted by son

VALDOSTA, GA - On May16, 2013, police were called to 825 Bethune Street regarding a dispute.  Upon arrival, police locate a 58 year old female victim who stated she had been attacked after an argument,  by her son, 26 year old Dexter C. Harding, inside their home. 

The victim had a cut to the back of her neck and stated that her son had cut her.  She also stated he had used a stun gun on her. 

Don't drive your boat drunk

LAKE BLACKSHEAR, GA (WALB)- A tougher boating under the influence is now in effect making the new legal limit for BUI's the same for drivers on Georgia's roads.

State leaders were at Lake Blackshear, a stop on their "where the rudder meets the road tour" to spread the word that driving under the influence will not be tolerated.

State and local law agencies are teaming up and cracking down on boaters operating a vessel under the influence.

Brooks Co. School Board cuts School Resource Officers

BROOKS COUNTY, GA (WALB)- It's a budget call that no school system wants to make. But for Brooks County School Board members they've voted to put their School Resource Officer program on the chopping block.

"It's purely a question on whether were getting the most bang for what we're paying," said board member Brad Shealy.

They're cutting the only two resource officers in the county - one at Brooks High School and the other at Brooks Middle.
