Going back to the dance! VSU knocks off UAH

VALDOSTA, GA (WALB)- For the third time in four years, the VSU Lady Blazers softball team is going back to the National Tournament after beating conference foe Alabama-Huntsville in the South Super Regionals Finals.

The Lady Blazers won game one of the best-of-three series 5-3 on Friday night.  In game two, UAH  Mallory McNeal knocked a chopper back up the middle in the 7th inning which scored Mary Kelley to not only give the Lady Chargers a 5-4 game two victory but also forced a deciding game three. 

VPD awards Moody Airmen for help with bomb threat

VALDOSTA, GA (WALB)- The Valdosta Police Department awarded Airmen with Moody Air Force Base for their help during a bomb threat at Valdosta High School.

Chief Brian Childress presented eight airmen and their bomb sniffing dogs with challenge coins. German shepherds Ronnie, Hal, And Lola along with the airmen helped VPD search the school on April 24th.

The threat was a hoax, and officials traced the call back to 20-year-old Kahlil Furman-Berrian who was later arrested.

Valdosta woman stabbed, tazed, beaten by son speaks out

VALDOSTA, GA (WALB)- A Valdosta woman who says her son stabbed, beat, and tazed her Thursday morning is speaking out only to WALB.

She believes her son, who is a Navy veteran, suffers from PTSD after deploying multiple times overseas.

Diane Harding says her 26-year-old son Dexter has always been known as a mama's boy. The former Valdosta Wildcat football player, who joined the Navy at 18, is now behind bars accused of stabbing and tazing his mother yesterday morning. Diane says she's in disbelief.

Lowndes students receive CNA pins

 Twenty-eight students from Lowndes High received Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) pins at a ceremony held at the school last week.

Lowndes trucking company owner under federal indictment

LOWNDES COUNTY, GA (WALB)- The United States
Attorney for the Middle District of Georgia got an indictment of Devasko Dewayne
Lewis of Lowndes County for operating his trucks after the DOT issued an order for him to stop.

The DOT issued the order in 2008, and the government says that Lewis kept operating the trucks by registering them in other people's names.

Valdosta man stabs, tazes mother

VALDOSTA, GA (WALB)- A Valdosta woman is in the hospital tonight after police say her son stabbed and tazed her early this morning.

The woman was able to run to a neighbor's house to get help.

Police found her son and arrested him a short time later.

Just days after Mother's Day a Valdosta woman is recovering in the hospital after police say her son, 26-year-old Dexter Harding, stabbed and tazed her.

Lowndes Middle student starts fire at school

LOWNDES COUNTY, GA (WALB)- A Lowndes Middle School student is charged with second degree arson after deputies say he started a fire in the school.

The school was evacuated around 2:00 p.m. yesterday after a student lit a garbage can on fire inside a boys bathroom.

No one was injured, and the fire caused only minimal smoke damage.

An 11-year-old boy said he was dared by a friend to start the fire. Deputies say more arrests are possible.
