15 Lowndes Co. homes severely damaged

LOWNDES COUNTY, GA- One house off of highway 125 in Lowndes County was reduced to rubble.

Officials say more than 30 homes were affected today. They're calling 15 of those 30 home severely damaged.

No injuries were reported.

Crews will be back out Sunday assessing damage and there's a chance they may find more destruction.

Moody announces readiness exercise next week

VALDOSTA, GA- News release from Moody Air Force Base-

Moody Air Force Base is scheduled to conduct a Phase II Operational Readiness Exercise with extended operations beginning on Wednesday, 7 March from 12:01 a.m. to Friday, 9 March at 6 a.m.   

During the exercise, the public address system, known as the giant voice, will be used to broadcast communication messages.  Sirens and a number of ground burst explosion simulators will be used during the exercise to help assess the base's response to changing threat conditions and scenarios.

Baytree Road to get emergency drainage improvements

VALDOSTA, GA - News release from City of Valdosta

The City of Valdosta Engineering Department will be replacing storm pipes on Baytree Road between S. Sherwood Drive and W. Gordon Street, beginning Monday, March 5.

Motorist are advised to use caution as there will be minimal lane closures during repairs, which are scheduled to take place from 10 pm through 6 am daily, weather permitting, until the work is completed. 

Traffic warning signs will be posted to alert motorists of the construction. 

Valdosta man robbed at knife-point

From the Valdosta Police Department-

On February 27, 2012 at approximately 1840 hours, the Valdosta Police Department responded to the Splash Zone Car Wash at 807 Baytree Road in reference to a robbery.

Officers made contact with Benjamin Bonner, who advised that an unknown black male approached him from behind and held him up with a knife.

The offender, later identified as Walter Thomas, Jr., took Bonner's wallet and fled on foot.
